Privacy Policy

Project 56 ("we", "us", "our") is an educational platform built for IB MYP students. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we store it, and your rights regarding that data.

1. Data We Collect

Account data (signed-in users):

• Google profile information provided by Firebase Authentication (display name, email address, profile photo URL)
• Country and school name (entered during onboarding)
• Subject selections

Learning data:

• Activity scores and question counts
• Lesson progress and completion status
• Daily streak and achievement records
• Gems balance and streak freeze inventory
• Leaderboard entries (display name, school, country, scores)

Locally stored data (localStorage):

• Dark mode, font, wallpaper, and opacity preferences
• Music playback state and volume
• Cookie consent status
• Practice history and weekly statistics

Feedback data: If you submit feedback, we store the message, feedback type, your email (if signed in), and a timestamp.

2. Why We Collect Data

• Authentication: To let you sign in and sync progress across devices.
• Educational functionality: To track your learning progress, calculate streaks, and display leaderboard rankings.
• Personalisation: To remember your preferences (dark mode, wallpaper, font, subject selections).
• Improvement: To understand how the platform is used and to fix bugs via feedback reports.

3. Data Storage and Processors

We use Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore) to store account and learning data. Google acts as a data processor on our behalf. Firebase's data is hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure. See Firebase Privacy and Security for details.

Local preferences (dark mode, wallpaper, etc.) are stored in your browser's localStorage and never leave your device unless you sign in, in which case wallpaper data may be synced to Firestore.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

Project 56 does not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

We use:

• Firebase Authentication cookies/tokens: Essential for maintaining your sign-in session.
• localStorage: Essential for saving your preferences and learning progress locally.

These are strictly essential for the platform to function. We do not use analytics, advertising, or social media tracking cookies.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Your data is only shared with:

• Google/Firebase: As our data processor for authentication and storage.
• Other users: Your display name, school, country, and scores are visible on the public leaderboard if you are signed in and have activity.

6. Your Rights

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), UAE Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL), and other applicable laws, you have the right to:

• Access: Download a copy of all data we hold about you (use the "Download My Data" button in Settings).
• Rectification: Update your country, school, or display name at any time in Settings.
• Erasure: Delete your account and all associated data (use the "Delete Account" button in Settings).
• Restriction: You may stop using the platform at any time. Signing out stops all data sync.
• Portability: Export your data as JSON using the "Download My Data" feature.

7. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Project 56 is designed for IB MYP students and is intended for users aged 13 and older. If you are under 13, you must have verifiable parental or guardian consent before creating an account or using the platform.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will delete that data promptly.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all Firestore data (profile, leaderboard entries) is deleted immediately. localStorage data is cleared on your device at the time of deletion.

9. Security

We use Firebase's built-in security features, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS) and Firestore security rules to restrict data access to authenticated users. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Effective date" at the top will be updated accordingly. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
